Not as complex as JIRA, but not as simple as Trello. Inside of a ‘Microsoft shop’ it’s often a free tool within Office365 that then ties to people’s email notifications or attach from SharePoint files, etc. And yes, you can pivot the view of tasks (as cards) by a couple different ways.
I was not getting much traction recently with an Excel RAID log but things improved after I converted it to a Microsoft Planner file. Using it’s ‘labels’ feature, I can view r.a.i.d.’s per person assigned, per project team, per deadline. The reporting sucks but I believe MSFT will improve this in 2019.

Just listened to this Podcast! Now I will be looking at movies and other media in a whole new way…. as if I was not already geekie enough looking at coaching and mentoring themes.
Contrasting great PM traits with not go great ones was fun as well.
Keep these engaging podcasts coming!

Trent! I feel you, this is a tough spot. It’s really hard to deal with what feels like a ‘wishy washy’ sponsor.
I’m curious – it sounds like there’s a disagreement between the VPs and the President? I’d recommend listening to ‘Stage Direction in the Boardroom’ (if you haven’t already). From what I gather, some one is influencing your spo…[Read more]

Hi! I know this is a super old thread…but I felt this was the most appropriate/relevant topic for my question. Please let me know if this should be posted elsewhere. I gave a lot of background information but this is a HUGE problem that my supervisor PM and I are struggling with…(and continue to struggle with)
So I listened to the whole…[Read more]

oh budgets. In many ways, excel is still queen of the castle for me. What costs are you tracking? Eg: resource hours, $$ billed to client, software or hardware costs, or materials costs?
I’d love to see a scrubbed version of your spreadsheet, because I’m an excel nerd, if you’d like any feedback or just confirmation the method to the mad…[Read more]

How do you stay on top of your budget during your project? Are there any project management tools that incorporate budget tracking? Or any other tool? I have a spreadsheet and run a spent to date report weekly but I haven’t found an effective way to match it up to where we are progress wise in the project.

It’s a bit late, but I just wanted to say how much fun it was to be on this call! I hope I didn’t sound too slow at 7am my time 🙂 The mastermind tactic seems incredibly valuable and I hope JR gets his service up and running soon.
Hi Folks, not sure if it is my chrome browser, but I still cannot get my picture to upload to this avatar option. Any clues ?
ooohhhh yes yes yes yes very excited to hear that you’d like to hear more on this! Being the boss is the best – especially when you decided it.
Get ready for some bossypants talk!
Congrats on your move to a Leadership PM! Just realizing the difference and deciding you want to go that direction puts you ahead of a lot of people in the field.
Thanks for the feedback – it’s now on our backlog for full episodes – stay tuned 🙂
Kim/ Kate, I loved this take of being a CEO of our own projects.
I am having a hard time moving from a task oriented role into a PM role, where I need to find ways to motivate people who does not only report to me, but are also going through a lot of organizational changes.
Keeping this attitude of a CEO of a project helped me realized I am…[Read more]
